Pastor Dan and his wife, Karen, are both native Vancouverites who are committed to reaching their city with the message of the Gospel. After completing his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, Daniel worked three years in the financial services industry. The experience in the marketplace was very formational as Daniel answered God’s call on his life to pastoral ministry; a call he felt from the age of 17 as young believer. Always seeking to make faith relevant to all areas of life, Daniel’s ethos towards church ministry is that it’s not just about getting people into church, but getting them back out into the world to be on mission with God in their families, workplaces, and recreation. His theological training was from Regent College in Vancouver, where he completed a MDiv in 2004.
With a particular passion for Biblical preaching, Daniel has been in pastoral ministry since 2004, first in a large English speaking congregation of a Chinese church, and now as the pastor at Urban Village Church since 2008.
Karen is a musician and teacher in her home piano studio; and also passionately involved in the serving in the church. Together with Daniel they have three young children: Cameron, April, and Noah.
Far too many hobbies and interests have crossed Daniel’s interest over the years, but nowadays, Daniel enjoys Brazilian jiu-jitsu, skiing in the winter, volleyball, reading, music, photography, and good food.
